Wimbledon women’s singles quarterfinals, the third Grand Slam event of the season, have been announced.
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland could not make it to the quarterfinals. The top-ranked player at this stage will be world number two Ons Jabeur (No. 3 seed) of Tunisia, who will play against Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic.
The other quarterfinal pairs: Ajla Tomljanovic (Australia) – Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan, 17); Simona Halep (Romania, 16) – Amanda Anisimova (USA, 20); Tatjana Maria (Germany) – Jule Niemeier (Germany).
Wimbledon, held on the grass courts in suburban London, will conclude on July 10. In April, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) refused to admit Russian and Belarusian tennis players to the tournament because of the situation in Ukraine. In response, in May, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) decided not to award ranking points to the participants.
