Barcelona has issued a statement regarding the signing of Lionel Messi. Eduard Romeu, the vice-president of the Catalan club, addressed the situation concerning Messi, who is currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain in France.
As reported by Barca Universal, Romeu stated that the signing of Messi was not part of their plans and advised caution. He emphasized that a player of Messi’s caliber always brings value, and Barcelona would benefit from being in a strong position in La Liga.
Previously, there were reports that Messi would leave PSG in the summer and potentially continue his career in Saudi Arabia, where he had been offered a record-breaking contract worth around 500 million euros.
Since 2021, Messi has been playing for PSG after spending his entire career at Barcelona. His contract with the Parisian club is set to expire in June 2023.
In the current season, Messi has participated in 37 matches across all competitions, scoring 20 goals and providing 19 assists.
