Hotel operator MGM Resorts has announced the launch of its gambling brand, BetMGM, in the United Kingdom. This marks the company’s first step in its strategy to expand the brand internationally. Previously, BetMGM was only available in Canada and the USA, where it held about a third of the betting market at the beginning of the year.
BetMGM will operate in the British market using the platform of the Swedish company LeoVegas, a Swedish gambling company that was acquired by MGM Resorts in 2022 for approximately $600 million.
Thus, BetMGM is being introduced in the UK with its own technology, separate from MGM Resorts’ joint venture with Entain in the USA and Canada, which continues to operate on the gambling holding platform.
“BetMGM is a proven brand in the sports betting and iGaming space, and we look forward to welcoming international players to our platforms designed specifically for them,” said Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts.
Hornbuckle also emphasized that entering the British market represents a key step in the company’s strategy for international growth.
