The singles finalists of the 2023 French Open, which took place last month, suffered simultaneous defeats at Wimbledon. However, while the Norwegian player Casper Ruud (No. 4) was eliminated in the second round, the Czech player Karolina Muchova (No. 16) couldn’t even surpass the barrier of the first round.
In the second round of Wimbledon, the 24-year-old Ruud lost to British player Liam Broady (No. 142) – 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 0-6. Last month, Casper reached the final of the French Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic – 6-7(1), 3-6, 5-7.
The 26-year-old Muchova, who lost in the French Open final to Iga Swiatek – 2-6, 7-5, 4-6, had to wait for her first match at Wimbledon for several days. The delay was due to rain. Today, she finally played her first-round match but lost to German player Yulia Naimayer (No. 103) – 4-6, 7-5, 1-6.
Ruud has now lost in the second round of Wimbledon for the second consecutive year. He has never progressed further in this tournament. On the other hand, Muchova has suffered a first-round defeat for the second year in a row, despite previously reaching the quarterfinals in London twice (in 2019 and 2021).
It is worth noting that Wimbledon 2023 is taking place from July 3 to July 16 in the capital of the United Kingdom.
