ESPN has named WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol the best boxer of 2022 and his win over Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez the year’s main upsets.
Their fight took place in May, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA when Bivol won by judges’ decision (115-113 thrice).
In November, Bivol also defeated another Mexican, Gilberto Ramirez, by points (118-110, 117-111 twice) to claim his fifth title in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
“Canelo”, in turn, closed his trilogy with Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan (116-112, 115-113 twice) in September in Las Vegas.
