Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs), the WBA Super, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion of the world, has a new challenger.
The World Boxing Association (WBA) has ordered GGG to face Erislandy Lara (29-3-3, 17 KOs), who holds the regular WBA belt.
And Golovkin must do it within 120 days after his third fight against Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs).
Recall, the trilogy is scheduled for September 17 and will take place in the super-middle division: all “Canelo” titles will be on the line, and for Golovkin it will be his debut at the new weight.
Golovkin and Alvarez’s third fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena, where their previous two fights took place: the first (2017) ended in a controversial draw, and the second (2018) ended in a minimal victory for the Mexican.
