In the world of combat sports, a colossal showdown is on the horizon as former world boxing champion Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs) steps into the ring against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou (0-1). Scheduled for March 8th in Saudi Arabia, this cross-discipline battle promises to be a spectacle of raw power and skill, captivating fans across the globe.
The Road to the Showdown
Ngannou, making his professional boxing debut last October against WBC champion Tyson Fury, showcased his mettle by going the distance in a non-title bout that ended in Fury’s favor via a split decision. Despite the defeat, Ngannou displayed his prowess, scoring a knockdown against the favored Fury in the third round.
On the other hand, Joshua had a busy 2023, engaging in three bouts. He started by outpointing Jermaine Franklin, followed by impressive stoppage victories over Robert Helenius and Otto Wallin.
Joshua’s Perspective
Expressing his determination, Joshua stated, “I chose Ngannou because I want to vie for the world champion title again. I want to steer my career towards championship glory, and this fight leads me to that championship. I must defeat Ngannou, and when I do, I will step into a title bout. Boxing, in this regard, resembles a staircase: you win, you ascend; you lose, you descend.”
