The 19-year-old Dane Holger Rune of Denmark reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros, having beaten the fourth seed of the tournament, Stephanos Tsitsipas of Greece.
The 1/8 finals match lasted about three hours and ended in four sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-3, and 6-4). Rune, who made one of the main sensations of the tournament, is seeded number 40 in Paris.
In the quarterfinals, the Dane will play against eighth-seeded Kasper Ruud of Norway. World ranking leader Novak Djokovic of Serbia will face Rafael Nadal of Spain (No. 5).
Germany’s Alexander Zverev (No. 3) will play another 19-year-old player, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain (No. 6), in the quarterfinals.
All quarter-final matches in the men’s net will be played today, May 31.
