Belarusian Arina Sabalenka will lead the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings following the conclusion of the US Open, which is taking place in New York.
This became known after Polish player Iga Swiatek, currently, the world’s number one, lost to Latvian Elena Ostapenko in the round of 16.
Thanks to this, Sabalenka, who is currently ranked second, will surpass Swiatek in the updated WTA rankings regardless of her further performance at the US Open 2023.
Swiatek took over the world WTA ranking on April 4, 2022, and has not dropped below the number one spot since then. Sabalenka will become the world’s number one for the first time.
