The undisputed world champion in the second middleweight category, Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, has been recognized as the best boxer of the year by the World Boxing Council (WBC), as reported on the official WBC website.
In 2023, Alvarez had two fights. In May, he secured a victory over British boxer John Ryder, and in September, he defeated American Jermell Charlo, retaining the WBC, WBA Super, WBO, and IBF titles.
Canelo boasts 60 wins (39 by knockout), with two losses and two draws in his professional boxing career.
The award ceremony took place at the WBC’s gala evening in Tashkent. Former undisputed world champion in the first super lightweight category, Konstantin Tszyu, former undisputed world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield from the United States, and WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champion from Ukraine, Alexander Usik, also received awards from WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.
