Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid sustained an injury during training on Tuesday.
Reports indicate that he left the training session in tears after being diagnosed with a meniscus tear in his right knee.
According to the Spanish publication Marca, Courtois will not play for the remainder of the season.
“I am saddened by the new injury, but it’s just a minor setback. I will come back stronger than ever. I feel the support,” Courtois wrote on Instagram.
With Courtois sidelined, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has taken over as the primary goalkeeper for Real Madrid. This season, Lunin has appeared in 23 matches.
Courtois’ injury adds to the challenges faced by Real Madrid as they continue their campaign in domestic and European competitions. Despite the setback, Courtois remains determined to recover and return to action as soon as possible.
As Real Madrid navigates through the remainder of the season without Courtois, they will rely on Lunin and the rest of the squad to maintain their competitive edge and pursue success on all fronts.
