World-renowned boxer Tyson Fury is making a highly-anticipated return to the ring this weekend as he takes on former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in a groundbreaking crossover showdown in Saudi Arabia. The Gypsy King had hinted at this clash ever since his victory over Dillian Whyte, defending his WBC belt in April 2022.
This match has faced its share of criticism from fans who were hoping for a Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk bout, but negotiations for that bout fell through, as did a potential battle with heavyweight rival Anthony Joshua. Instead, Fury will go toe-to-toe with former UFC superstar Ngannou under professional boxing rules in an event dubbed the ‘Battle Of The Baddest.’
Ngannou, known as ‘The Predator,’ is stepping into the boxing ring for the first time since parting ways with Dana White’s company in January. The bout is set for ten rounds and will be officially recognized, although Fury’s title will not be at stake. The victor will be awarded the WBC’s new ‘Commemorative Riyadh Championship’ belt.
Following this contest, Fury is slated to meet Usyk in Saudi Arabia later this winter to determine the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. Mark your calendars for this 10-round crossover clash taking place on Saturday, October 28, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The undercard will commence at 6 pm, with the main event’s ring-walks expected around 10 pm UK time.
