The long-awaited El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid took place in the central match of the 26th round of the Spanish La Liga. The encounter at Camp Nou ended in a hard-fought win for the hosts.

On the ninth minute, the guests from the capital took the lead after an unsuccessful rebound in the penalty area of the hosts – Ronald Araujo scored an own goal – 0:1. Just before the break the Blues came back into the game thanks to an accurate shot by Sergi Roberto – 1-1.

In the second half, Marco Asensio netted the opener on 81 minutes. However, his goal was canceled out due to offside after the VAR check. Substitute for Barcelona Franck Kessie got on the scoresheet after extra time. His goal brought the Catalans a victory and made the game 2-1.

After the match Xavi’s charges had 68 points on their books, increasing their lead over their rivals in the Spanish championship table.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team has 56 points, they are still in second place.

It should be noted that while for Barcelona the European season is over, Real Madrid will play Chelsea of London in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
