ESPN announced the winners of its annual ESPYS awards. Argentine forward Lionel Messi was recognized as the best football player of 2023.

Additionally, the newcomer to Inter Miami received an award for the best performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he was named the tournament’s best player, and his national team, Argentina, became the champion.

The award was also contested by Manchester City striker and Norwegian national team player Erling Haaland, Barcelona player, and Spanish national team player Aitana Bonmati, as well as Sofia Smith, who plays for the US national team and Portland Thorns.

At the same time, Messi lost the battle for the award of the best athlete of the year according to the ESPY Award.

The prize went to NFL star Patrick Mahomes, who plays for the Kansas City team. The award was also contended by basketball player Nikola Jokic and baseball player Aaron Judge.

Mahomes became the best NFL player for the second time, and his team, Kansas City, won the Super Bowl.

Last year, the award was received by Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry.
