The jerseys worn by Messi during the victorious World Cup in Qatar were sold for $7.8 million at a Sotheby’s auction. The lot included two shirts Messi wore during the group stage and four others worn during the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the winning final against the French team.

There was speculation that this lot might surpass the current record held by Michael Jordan’s jersey from the NBA 1998 finals, which sold for $10.1 million. However, Messi’s jersey didn’t exceed the $8 million mark.

In the 2022 World Cup, Messi became a world champion for the first time. Argentina defeated France in the final with a score of 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
