In the past, nearly all sports betting in the state of Illinois has occurred via online sportsbooks. However, this could change in the future. The retail sports betting industry is about to be getting a huge overhaul, and it could be one that will attract more betting action.

Betfair, the parent firm of FanDuel Sportsbook, recently submitted a bid for a retail sportsbook location at the United Center. Chicago’s Blackhawks and Bulls play in the United Center.

It is unknown how fast the IGB will grant a license, as this organization has historically been hesitant to provide various types of licenses. Nationwide, betting at professional sports venues is an increasing habit.

There are six professional stadiums or arenas having on-site retail sportsbooks, but none in Illinois. The sportsbook at the United Center would be open year-round, as opposed to exclusively during Bulls and Blackhawks home games.

This would expand FanDuel’s footprint in the Land of Lincoln, where it now dominates the online sports betting market.
