Sports betting is officially live in Ontario

Sports betting in Ontario went live on Monday, April 4. The nation’s parliament accepted the change in the federal law last year that allowed betting on single games, and Ontario is now a part of the official sports betting market of Canada. Before, betting was only available in the form of parlays offered by the provincial lottery.

On the first day of the official sports betting launch, almost thirty sportsbooks were granted gambling licenses for providing online betting services by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

Among the first operators are such big names as BetMGM, Caesars, Unibet, PointsBet, BetRivers, and FanDuel.

There are more major brands expected to enter the market in the nearest time, so locals will be soon able to join Bet365, LeoVegas, Royal Panda, 888, and other bookmakers. At the moment, several sponsorships have been already established. For instance, PointsBet Ontario signed with Canadian curling and alpine skiing federations.
