Regulators from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) stated last month that the state is one step closer to legalizing online sports betting. And if everything goes according to plan, internet sports betting in Maryland may debut as early as November.

Caesars Maryland has an existing retail sportsbook presence with Horseshoe Baltimore Casino, which opened in December 2021. Caesars MD was one of five sportsbooks to earn the state’s first license.

In an effort to expedite the process, the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) decided to grant rolling permission for online sportsbooks and betting applications in Maryland, as opposed to Ohio’s universal launch strategy.

SWARC has set Friday, October 21 as the deadline for online operators to apply for a license. The MLGCA will notify qualifying candidates on Thursday, October 27, and the SWARC will have up to 45 days to assess and grant licenses.

This indicates that the Caesars Maryland online sportsbook might start as early as the middle of November (early December seems to be the worst-case scenario).
